Todays Listed MOOD Items- MAKRAME JEWELLERY by JULIE

Julie Czyrek, Chilean artist with a long career working on the Pacific coast of South America. Her extensive travels around much of Latina America have introduced her to the many different kinds of handicraft – with particular specialisation in the macrame technique (a form of textile-making using knotting of thread).
She derives her primary inspiration from nature, incorporating this into her work through both her sourcing of local of materials and traditional South American artistic designs.
In this exhibition are some examples of Julie’s hand-craftred jewellery. Several types of material are used here including seeds, wood, leather, stones/pebbles, bones and natural waxed thread. These materials were sourced during Julie’s travels in Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Colombia. The fusion of South American materials with local handicraft techniques reflects both local traditions as well as the organic nature of South American life.
